What is the policy about?
When someone becomes ill because of their work, figuring out whether it counts as an occupational disease, and how they can be supported, can be complex. This policy explains how WorkSafeNB reviews these claims and decides if someone is entitled to benefits.
We are reviewing and updating the policy to:
Make the decision process clearer and easier to understand;
Reflect the latest medical and scientific standards for recognizing occupational diseases;
Keep our list of recognized diseases up to date; and
Improve how the policy is structured and presented.
What is changing?
We’re clarifying the steps we take to assess occupational disease claims and adding a new appendix that lists all WorkSafeNB-recognized occupational diseases (including two newly added ones). This format will make it easier to include new diseases in the future as research evolves.
Why your feedback matters
Your perspective will help ensure our approach is fair, clear, and aligned with current realities in workplaces and healthcare.
