WorkSafeNB invites you to participate in the review of our Setting Basic Assessment Rates policy.

WorkSafeNB undertakes an annual exercise to set assessment rates. Overall, each year’s assessment rates must generate enough revenue to cover all current and future costs of workers’ compensation for accidents occurring in that year. In addition, the rate must cover the expenditures for safety and prevention programs, all administrative expenses, and any funding adjustments required for prior years outside the target funding range.

Instead of taking a 100% collective liability approach, where all employers are assigned a common assessment rate, WorkSafeNB uses a classification system to group employers according to their business activity, accident risk and injury costs. This system creates incentives for firms engaged in high-risk activities to improve their occupational health and safety performance.

The goal of this consultation is to gather stakeholder feedback on the proposed revisions to Policy 23-600 Setting Basic Assessment Rates. You can see the current policy, proposed revisions, in the document found in the sidebar.
